Description

Non-surgical blepharoplasty, performed using a state-of-the-art instrument, acts on the excess skin of the eyelids without having to perform incisions. Non-surgical blepharoplasty is performed without anesthesia (if not locally with lidocaine-based ointments). It does not require suturing and it allows the skin to be retracted without incisions and without modifying the orbicular muscle of the eyelids. Unlike traditional surgery, it does not remove excess skin but merely acts on the eyelid skin, increasing its elasticity and thus restoring the skin to the state it was before the imperfection occurred.

The technique

After having disinfected the area and, in the case of more sensitive patients, having applied an anesthetic ointment, small ablation points are made that sublimate the dead cells of the eyelid epidermis (thus passing from the solid to the gaseous state), allowing their retraction and an increase in skin thickness. During the treatment, the patient is asked to open and close his eyes. That’s in order to treat only the affected parts and thus avoiding excess skin retraction. At the end of the session, ice packs are applied to the part to reduce any edema.

The patient only needs an antibiotic ointment to prevent any infections. He/she must be careful while cleansing the treated area and avoid exposure to UV rays. The crusts that form may last from 2 to 7 days and a maximum post-operative period of 10 days and, in any case, without bruising. In case of large amounts of excess skin on the eyelid, it is advisable to carry out the treatment in 3-4 sessions at a distance of one month from each other. The result obtained lasts for years and is often definitive.

Indications

Non-surgical blepharoplasty is indicated for all those who, having no need to remove excess retro orbital fat, wish to improve the aesthetics of their face without encountering the risks of anesthesia and the possible complications of surgery (asymmetry of the two eyes, hypertrophic scars, keloids, lagophthalmos, irreversible damage to the visus). With the same technique you can also correct the barcode, the glabellar area, the wrinkles of the puppets and finally the crow’s feet. In fact, the treatment does not require hospitalization and does not require anesthesia, it does not give rise to the formation of bruises, post-operative times are minimal with almost immediate functional recovery.

The advantages of this non-surgical blepharoplasty technique can be summarized as follows:

  • it does not require incisions
  • it leaves no scars
  • there is no bleeding
  • it does not require stitches
  • no anesthesia is needed
  • recovery is fast

Use

The ideal candidates for non-surgical blepharoplasty are those patients who, after the age of 30-35, are looking for a fresher and younger appearance by restoring the tone of the eye area and thus improving the overall appearance of the face. The causes of these imperfections can be different: from lack of rest to excessive exposure to sunlight, from dehydration of the skin to smoking, from a familiar predisposition to a diet that is too rich in sodium.

This type of treatment is also indicated for those who are not a good candidate for blepharoplasty, for those who do not wish to undergo surgery or for those who need correction.

During the first consultation, the doctor will assess the patient’s state of health, explaining in detail what the treatment consists of and the results to be expected.

In addition, during the first visit, the doctor will analyze the infraorbital area, to determine the specific conditions of each patient, also based on age and lifestyle. In addition, the doctor will also evaluate the following characteristics:

the presence of excess adipose tissue on the upper and lower eyelids, the hereditary predisposition that can influence the earliness and extent of any imperfections (laxity, wrinkles, fat, etc.), degree of laxity of the skin of the eyelids, the presence of wrinkles on the eyelid skin. Although the term “without surgery” may lead one to think that anyone could be a candidate for this treatment, it is still essential to inform the doctor about all the details of their medical history, especially in case of patients who have undergone surgery on the eyes or who have suffered from diseases related to cataracts, glaucoma or alterations of the retina. In addition, the doctor should be adequately informed about any health problems, medication intake and allergies.

Duration

The session will last a maximum of 30 minutes and the desired result can be achieved in a single session or, depending on the amount of tissue to be corrected, in a few short sessions.

Results

The skin will appear taut and smooth with a visible rejuvenation of the gaze. The benefits and results that can be observed after a non-surgical blepharoplasty can be:

  • reduction of bags under eyes
  • improvement and elimination of dark circles
  • filling of under-eye contour depression and tear groove
  • reduction of tired and fatigued appearance
  • A wider gaze, as the skin of the eyelid will be tauter

This treatment is contraindicated for patients suffering from chronic ophthalmic diseases and allergies and is not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding, as well as for pacemaker wearers. Based on the results of this evaluation, the physician will decide whether the patient is a suitable candidate for treatment or if he/she should opt for surgical blepharoplasty.

Costs

Non-surgical blepharoplasty has variable costs based on the patient’s initial condition, but a single treatment has an average price of € 500 per session.

FAQ

How many sessions are necessary?
We generally recommend 1 to 3 sessions, to obtain solid results. Some patients are satisfied with the results obtained with fewer sessions, while others prefer to continue to have improvements, requiring extra sessions.
Is anesthesia required?
Generally it is sufficient to apply an anesthetic cream and leave it on for at least 30 minutes.
Is it a painful procedure?
It is not painful as a specific anesthetic lotion is applied before the procedure.
How long does it take to see results?
Results are generally noticed after 15 days from the session, when the swelling has decreased and the crusts have fallen.
Is the result permanent?
If well performed, it certainly has a good duration, but the term “permanent” does not even apply to the surgical alternative.
